The Ridge Road is a spacious open area located in the heart of Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, India.
It serves as the cultural hub of Shimla, playing a central role in the city’s vibrant activities. Situated along Mall Road, which is known as the famous shopping center of Shimla, the Ridge connects major landmarks in the town, such as Snowdon, Jakhoo Hill, and the Mall.
The Ridge Road runs east to west alongside Mall Road, merging with it at Scandal Point on the west side, while leading to Lakkar Bazaar, a renowned market for wooden crafts, on the east. The Ridge is one of Shimla’s most iconic and recognizable landmarks, often featured in photographs during winter when the first snowfall blankets the area in a thick layer of snow.
Prominent structures along the Ridge include the neo-Gothic Christ Church from 1844 and the Tudor-style library building, constructed in 1910. Once, the base ridge of Shimla was surrounded by dense forests, but now the green slopes are dotted with firs, pines, Himalayan oaks, and carmine rhododendrons. Scattered among the natural beauty are red-roofed chalets, half-timbered houses, and Gothic-style government buildings, all of which are visible from the Ridge, adding to its charm and picturesque scenery.
